Description
A properly sealing inner axle seal helps keep fluid where it belongs and maintains a clean sealing surface around the axle. Why replace the axle seals? Prevent transmission fluid leaks. The seals keep CVT, automatic transmission, or differential fluid from leaking where the axle enters the transmission. Avoid fluid loss and expensive damage. A leaking seal can gradually lower the fluid level. Low fluid can lead to premature transmission or differential wear. The seals harden with age. Heat, mileage, and time can cause the rubber sealing surface to become hard or brittle. Prevent contamination. A worn seal can allow dirt and moisture to reach the axle/transmission sealing area. Avoid doin the job twice. If the axle is already being removed for another repair, replacing the older seal is relatively inexpensive compared with paying for the labor to remove the axle again. Protect the new axle. A properly sealing inner axle seal helps keep fluid where it belongs and maintains a clean sealing surface around the axle.
Why should you replace them? When there is visible fluid leakage around the axle to transmission housing. The axle is being replaced or removed and the seals have significant mileage or age. The seal shows wear, hardening, cracking, or deformation. The axle has been pulled from the transmission. Even if it isn’t leaking yet, this is a good opportunity to install a fresh genuine Subaru seal rather than risk disturbing an old seal and creating a leak.
