Upgrade With A High-Capacity Oil Filter

High capacity version, larger and more efficient than the standard replacement filter. If your Subaru is older than 2005, it came off the factory floor with the high-capacity oil filter you see pictured. All models after 2005 came with the smaller filter, largely due to space restrictions as a result of a different exhaust manifold to conform to emissions restrictions. While these filters work fine on what is essentially the same engine, the simple fact is that they do not offer the same filtering capacity and protection as the older, larger filters.

Why are we making a big deal offering these HD filters? Because Subaru has discontinued them as of several years ago to save costs after realizing the newer, smaller filters fit the older models just fine. As a result these are our most popular sellers for pre-2005 models and the Six Star brand we carry is the same high quality as the now extinct Genuine Subaru filters. At Smart Service (and Smart Quality Parts), we have been carrying and using the Six Star brand in our repair facility for over 15 years. Since the majority of our in-house technicians are Subaru factory trained we understand the benefit and need for correctly fitting and functioning replacement parts. The benefit of being an independent facility is that we are not required to use the Genuine Subaru stamped parts but unlike other independents, we didn’t want to use aftermarket parts just to cut costs and increase our margins.

We found Six Star in that search for the perfect balance between OEM quality and a more affordable price by cutting Subaru out as a middleman. We supplement with the Genuine Subaru parts where we feel that is needed or required if Six Star doesn’t manufacture a certain part, but we mostly use Six Star because more often than not the part is identical to what you would buy at the dealer.

The description below outlines the color and sticker system on the parts you may receive. Please know that 90%+ of the Six Star parts we carry are the Gold Star OEM designation and the Red Star options are just as good in our opinion (see our replacement oil filter for example, you can see it cut open next to a Genuine Subaru filter there is no difference at all).

Genuine = Exact part you would purchase at your Subaru dealer.
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer. The part was made by the exact same manufacturer that made the original part for your car. For example if you open a genuine Subaru wheel bearing you will find that the bearing is an NSK bearing. If you buy that same bearing OEM you’re getting the same part.
Alternative Source = These are parts that are manufactured by an indepedent aftermarket parts facility. Our alternative source parts are put through the rigors at Smart Service before we offer them online.

In today’s world of aftermarket parts you have to navigate through the the maze of online parts suppliers and hope that you picked the most reliable one. A daunting task to say the least!

Now remember your doing this because your son ran his Subaru 3 quarts low. Yes to everyone out there pop the hood at every gas fill and check your oil Or risk at best $4,000 engine rebuild if you do it yourself, $9,000 if you have it done, or worst $15,000 to $25,000 for a new car!

There is that old adage that you know quality when you see it.! This never more apparent than with automotive aftermarket part distributors like SmartQuality Parts!

SmartQualityParts was a dead give away as they put the word “Quality” in their company’s name. But beyond that…. They deliver this mission in every aspect of their sales associates courteous and thoughtful interaction with their customers. Their diligent part research and identification for my 2010 Subaru Impreza and rapid delivery to my home was the key to my successful reliable engine rebuild.
So at the end of the day you receive the right part at the right time for the best price.

Now you know things can go wrong, nobody’s perfect, but SmartQuality parts knows this about their operation… And they are concerned about their customers!

Quality parts at fair prices with a level of customer service unheard of these days. My parts arrive quickly and if needed I can call and speak to a very real, very friendly person with a technical question or advice about a part. The one time I had a small problem with one of the parts in my order they went above and beyond to make it right, quickly and without any hassle. I feel they value me as a customer and I appreciate that.
